Actions > Words
“Pay less attention to what men say. Just watch what they do.” - Dale Carnegie
Recently, I encountered a situation that got me thinking about this concept of actions speaking louder than words. From the time we were young, many of us can remember parents/teachers/coaches telling us this phrase countless times. As we grow and mature in our life, our career, our faith, our relationships, etc people should be able to look at our actions and see that we are someone who is trustworthy that walks with true integrity and humility.
The funny thing about our words is that they don’t carry any weight if we can’t/don’t live out what we say. Christine Szymanski said it well when she said, “Words will hold some water, but actions carry buckets full.”
When I reflect on the people in my life that I have respected most, the common denominator is that their life produced “good fruit”, as the Bible says. These people’s lives and their actions conveyed their beliefs. None of them were the loudest person in any given room. On the contrary, many of them embraced a lower seat and embodied what it means to have humility.
In your home, in your job, in whatever situation you find yourself in this week, remember that your actions will always speak louder than your words. Don’t just talk about it, be about it.
