BUILT ON TRUST
If you think about many of the best / most healthy relationships in your life, I would bet that at the core all of these have one thing in common; TRUST. A relationship (whether personal or professional) can have a lot of great qualities but without trust, you won’t get very far.
The longer I am in recruiting, the more I have found this to be true. Many leaders of construction companies recount stories to me about recruiters they previously worked with who didn’t do what they promised, seemed only in it for the money, did not listen to what their true needs were, etc. And all of these actions scream that what the relationship was lacking was TRUST. These companies had no confidence that these recruiters had their best interests at heart because their relationships were not built on trust.
Andy Stanley (Leadership Author and Pastor at North Point Community Church) says, “Trust is the currency of all relationships.”
I find that quote to be so true and consistent in every area of my life. My wife, my kids, friends, clients, candidates; they all need to know they can trust me. When you have a relationship centered around trust, that is when you really see growth and mutual benefit.
As I continue to serve both clients and candidates across the construction and development industry, I am striving each day to build trust through genuine, authentic, honest, and open communication. My challenge for all of us is next time we go to make a decision, ask ourselves, “By doing this, am I helping build trust in this relationship?” If the honest answer is no, don’t do whatever it is. Over time, you will be glad you did. People (both professionally and personally) want to know they can trust you more than anything else.
Remember, “Trust is the currency of all relationships.”
